How long have you been a photographer?

I have been into photography since I was a teenager, but it wasn’t until the beginning of 2018 when I quit my dental assisting job and started running Milk and Thistle as a full-time business.

Where are you based out of and do you travel for shoots?

Currently I live on the central coast of California specifically San Luis Obispo County however I was born and raised in Colorado and visit regularly to see my mom and sisters. I adore traveling and would be more than happy to follow you wherever your little heart desires

Do you charge extra for traveling?

When it comes to weddings/elopements I do not charge any extra fees if the wedding is in the US however if it is a smaller shoot such as engagement or maternity, I will charge a fee depending on the location.

Who is your second shooter?

I dont have one designated second shooter. My second shooter can vary between a few different people. This is because they are also photographers who run their own business and so it depends on who is available for your date that I chose. That being said I always try and use someone who has a similar style to mine and who I feel will be a good fit for your wedding day.

Can we provide our own second shooter?

Unfortunately, no. It’s important to me that you are getting the best images possible for your wedding. Having a good working relationship and communication with my second shooter is vital in making sure everything goes smoothly and I want to choose someone I trust to get the job done.

Why is a second shooter important?

There are honestly quite a few great reasons to have a second shooter. The most obvious is an added perspective. Two different people taking photos with two different creative minds means you get to see your day through two different perspectives. Also, I am only one person so as much as I would love to take photos of your Grandma Sue balling her eyes out while also taking photos of you having your first kiss it just ain’t possible. So, having two people basically means I can be in two places at once.

Do you have backups for your equipment?

Most definitely. Whether it be a small shoot or your wedding day getting your photos taken can be stressful especially the buildup leading to it. The last thing you want is to find out your photographers’ camera isn’t working. On a regular shoot I only use one camera but have a spare with me. On a wedding day I use two cameras and also have a third as a spare.

How many images will I receive?

I can’t give you an exact number but I try and give you at least 35 images per hour of shooting. So, let’s say you book me for an 8-hour wedding you will receive a minimum of 280 images. It could be more than that but that just gives you a rough ballpark.

Do you give RAW unedited images?

No, as I believe that editing is half the magic that goes into images and without this huge step the images are only halfway done. I promise to never leave any photos out that you’ll want/need and if you feel I missed delivering a photo just ask! Im more than happy to check back through my images and send it over to you (I make mistakes, no lie!) I won’t let you miss out on your memories!

What is your turn around time?

I know you want these as fast as possible and I will do my best to give them to you as soon as I can. While depending on the time of year I try and get photos for regular hour sessions back to you in 3-4 weeks or sooner and weddings between 6-8 weeks however that is just an estimate.

Can you photoshop us?

I believe in body positivity and you are gorgeous exactly how you are, and I am not going to change that. However, I will remove things that are not normally there such as a bruise, cut or blemish. If you are especially self-conscious about something, please let me know and I will be extra aware of how I pose you.

What happens if you can’t make it?

I really hope this never happens but in the event that I can’t make it in a situation that is out of my control (act of God, illness, death, etc.) in this case I would do my best to help find a replacement photographer to take my place that I trust with a similar style, although I am not legally held to do so. If I can’t make it to your wedding your money will be refunded.

Can we share the images on social media?

I would be offended if you didn’t. Just kidding no pressure but you better!!! All I ask is that it would be really awesome if you tagged my business in the photos as this really helps more clients find me and if you did, I would give you a massive hug so it’s a win win.

Do we have to do an engagement shoot?

No, you by no means have to however I highly recommend it. Almost everyone warns me before a shoot that they are super awkward and uncomfortable in front of the camera. So, the engagement shoot is like an ice breaker. You and your partner can get a feel for what it’s like getting your photo taken without a crowd watching you. You also have a better sense of how I work and feel more comfortable with me around. There is no pressure though and if you don’t want them, we can take a little off the price of the package you chose.

Can we request specific shots we would like?

Heck yea! Make a Pinterest board and send it my way or tell me some of the photos you are hoping to get, and I will do my best to get it for you. It’s important to know that a lot goes on during a wedding day so while I will do my best to get the shots you are looking for; I may not get every single one of them.

Will you be at our rehearsal?

I do not typically go to rehearsals but if you would like me to be there to get a feel for how the wedding day is going to go, I will do my best to make it, but I will not be taking photos.

Do you offer albums/prints?

Not at this time however all the images you receive can be downloaded to your computer or smart phone and you can get them printed wherever you like.

How will you be dressed on our wedding day?

Typically, I tend to wear all black and go for a very basic black jeans and black t shirt look. This may seem casual for a wedding, but I am moving around all day sometimes on my knees for shots so being in a dress can be tricky and I want to be comfortable moving around so much throughout the day. If your wedding is black tie or you have a certain required dress code and you would like me to be more formal I can otherwise I will wear what I have found works for me.

Will you be posting our images on your social media/website?

Not every wedding or shoot gets posted or added to my website. While I do love and use social media and try to post on a regular basis, I get busy and don’t have time to post everything. Sometimes when it comes to posting I might already have a lot of other weddings that are similar looking and want to post more diverse images at the time. Social media is amazing but sometimes it can really drag us down emotionally so please do not be offended if I do not post any of your images. You are amazing and if we work together, I would be honored to put you on my social media.
